Artist's Comments

A piece i did in highschool, charcoal. inspired by the movie jacobs ladder.

i always thought that when your insane you reflect your mind. and many times that is distorted, space and time dont exist, causing a melding effect. thats what this shows.

I like it. The clinical definition of insanity states that you are insane when you can no longer question your own sanity. I don't believe that's the case, because there are individuals, such as Hannibal Lecter, who know they're insane, and either don't care, or make light of it. I believe that there are different kinds of insanity; it can be hallucinogenic, in which one can no longer distinguish reality from fantasy, or it can manifest itself in an unhealthy fixation, or it can result in an inability to distinguish right from wrong. And insanity doesn't have any particular appearance either; there have been cases of individuals who behaved like any other person, but were later institutionalized.

Whatever the case, I like your portrait.
